New Mashpee Wampanoag headquarters rises from the ground
As the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has made headlines with its battle for a tribal casino in Taunton, it has embarked on a quieter project to build, by fall, a 47,000-square-foot tribal headquarters in Mashpee.
“This is evolution for us. And with it, we’re able to solve a couple of challenges,” Mashpee Wampanoag tribal council Chairman Cedric Cromwell said.
For years, the tribe’s administrative offices have been crammed into tiny modular buildings scattered around land off Great Neck Road South. Meetings have been held at Mashpee High School. Other services are provided through offices at a Mashpee shopping center and off-Cape.
