JJ Carroll Apartments

The redevelopment of the John J. Carroll Apartments created a new, passive house certified, 180,000 SF building with 142 apartments (124 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom) connected to 2Life’s Weinberg House, through an enclosed pedestrian bridge. In partnership with the Boston Housing Authority (BHA), the existing 64 apartments were modernized, preserving tenancy and affordability for existing JJ Carroll residents, and creating 78 additional new affordable homes for low-income older adults. The project included a new 11,000 SF PACE center, a comprehensive health and wellness program to help seniors meet their healthcare needs. The ground floor, "Village Center," was an accessible and flexible common space. The new building included the highest standards of universal design, adaptability, and sustainability that were standard in every 2Life project. In addition to Passive House, the building was LEED Silver-certifiable.
