Adrian Tinsley Athletic Center, Bridgewater State College
The Adrian Tinsley Athletic Center project is an 86,000 sq. ft. multi-use athletic facility over looking playing fields and the outdoor track. The Facility consolidated the Athletic and Movement Arts Departments into a single building. The interior design allows for simultaneous use for multiple activities. A competition level basketball/volleyball court with retractable bleacher seating for 1,000 spectators occupies one half of the gym while recreational courts for both sports occupy the other half. One of the challenges on the Tinsley Athletic Center project was the erection of the full span steel trusses over the field house. These long-span trusses were delivered in three pieces and needed the use of multiple cranes to erect. Two of the sections were assembled on the ground and lifted by one crane while the remaining piece was erected with a second crane. These two pieces were then set and bolted together in place.
Our team also worked closely with the college to schedule and install the utility connections (sewer and electric) for the Tinsley Center. The utility connections needed to be extended through campus to connect to the existing lines and transformers. This work was done while the school was in session and careful attention was paid to working with the college to maintain a safe working condition for the students. The facility staff was notified in advance of the scheduled work and areas were restricted for student access during these times.
