Friends Academy
In the summer of 2011, Dellbrook | JKS completed an extremely aggressive renovation project at Friends Academy in Dartmouth, MA. The Lower School Renovation project consisted of not only an elevator addition, but also a complete renovation of two wings of the lower and upper floor levels in the Lower School section of the building. The interior renovations included a complete demolition and reconstruction of 11 classrooms, public bathrooms and common areas at two wings of the building. All mechanical and electrical systems for these sections of the buildings were updated during the project, including the addition of a new fire protection system not only to the renovated areas but also to all existing floors of these wings of the building.
In addition to the complete interior remodel and the elevator addition, the scope of work included a complete exterior renovation to these wings of the building. Not only were all windows and exterior finish and the entire roof removed and replaced in order to improve the envelope of the building, but the exterior walls were completely removed and reconstructed on one side of the building.
Dellbrook | JKS embarked on this challenging $2.2 million renovation project follow graduation in June of 2011, and in less than 12 short weeks had completed the project and obtained a final certificate of occupancy to allow the school to open on schedule following Labor Day week-end. This was no small achievement given the number of unforeseen conditions which were uncovered on this existing building which was over 100 years old.
