Massachusetts State House Roof Replacement & Exterior Repairs
In 2008, J.K. Scanlan Company, LLC was selected by DCAM through an RFP process to serve as the Construction Manager for the State House Roof Replacement Project. The primary focus of this project included the removal and replacement of the existing 75,000 square feet of flat seamed copper roofing. Almost every skylight on the building was removed and replaced as part of this project; four of which were fitted with Photovoltaic Panels. Other aspects of this project included upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems, a new drainage system, replacement of the 5 low sloped terrace roofs and elevated portico at the front of the Bulfinch Building. Painting, replacement of architectural woodwork, interior repairs, and removal and replacement of close to 100 windows were also completed as part of this project.
Prior to construction, the Project Management Team was actively involved with pre-qualifying trade subcontractors. During pre-construction and construction, J.K. Scanlan Project Management worked closely with its in-house SOMWBA Compliance Committee to ensure Trade Contractor’s were achieving their contractual compliance obligations.
The State House project presented several challenges. These include: an aggressive schedule which had to be achieved, completing sensitive and complex work in a fully occupied facility, the need for continued coordination with Building Management to complete construction operations, as well as logistical limitations. J.K. Scanlan Company, LLC was able to meet and exceed these challenges at the State House Roof Replacement & Exterior Repairs Project.
