Nantucket Public Safety Facility
Dellbrook | JKS completed a new 35,000 SF police facility for the Town of Nantucket. The new facility was designed to house the police and sheriff departments.
Features of the police station included a 2-bay sally port, prisoner processing and detention area, evidence processing, state-of-the-art communications/dispatch/9-11 call center, and storage area, offices, and records room. Sustainable features included geothermal heating and cooling systems, day-lighting controls, occupancy sensors, recessed walk-off mats, and environmentally sensitive and native plantings throughout the site. Great care was taken to maintain the bicycle path which runs in front of the new facility while providing for the safety of both staff and visitors. Site master planning also allowed for the maximum use of the site while maintaining areas of the property for future use. Extensive permitting was required to meet endangered and protected species and Historic District regulations. The design of the facility also meets the Island’s Historic District Commission guidelines.
